Landlords and managing agents responsible for residential properties in Thanet are invited to a comprehensive event on Friday, September 27.

This all-day event is being organised by the local council in partnership with the Thanet Landlords’ Focus Group. It aims to provide important updates and insights relevant to property management and landlord responsibilities.

The event will feature a series of presentations from a variety of experts, including barristers, an accountancy firm, the National Residential Landlords Association, and the Department for Work and Pensions. Attendees will receive detailed information on upcoming changes to housing legislation and Universal Credit, which could impact their operations.

This is a valuable opportunity for landlords and managing agents to stay informed about legislative developments and enhance their understanding of key issues affecting the property sector.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service will also be presenting updates on current fire safety legislation, ensuring that landlords and managing agents are aware of the latest requirements and best practices for fire safety in residential properties.

The event is scheduled to run from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM at the Queens Road Baptist Church, located at Queens Road, Broadstairs CT10 1NU. Attendees can arrive from 9:00 AM, with the formal proceedings beginning promptly at 9:30 AM.

During the event, officers from Thanet Council’s housing and home energy teams will be available to provide insights into the support and resources available to landlords. They will also discuss various grants designed to enhance energy efficiency in rental properties, helping landlords make informed decisions about improvements and compliance.

A council spokesperson commented: “Given the current pressures from the rising cost of living and ongoing housing challenges, establishing strong relationships with local landlords is more important than ever.

“This event provides a crucial opportunity for local landlords and managing agents to come together, network, and access important information. Attendees will be able to learn about various topics that impact their work and their tenants, helping them stay informed and better manage their responsibilities.”

The council offers a range of support services to landlords, including assistance in avoiding tenant evictions, reactivating vacant properties, and connecting landlords with tenants without incurring fees. These services are designed to help landlords manage their properties more effectively while maintaining a focus on providing quality housing.

“By working together with local landlords and managing agents, we can improve housing standards and ensure that energy efficiency is a priority. Our goal is to enhance the quality of housing available to those in need within our communities.”

Landlords and managing agents who wish to attend the event are encouraged to register their interest by completing the online form available on the council’s website. The registration deadline is Friday, September 13, so please ensure you sign up before this date to secure your spot.
